Ricardo is Associate Consultant at SupportA.

He counts with 11+ years of research experience in genetics and genomics within interdisciplinary and international teams. He has lead projects investigating the genetic underpinnings of monogenetic and complex traits in humans and animal models.

Having completed his undergraduate studies in Biology at Javeriana University (Colombia), Ricardo joined the Institute of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (Colombia) to study mutations in genes responsible for rare inherited diseases in local populations. Subsequently, during his M.Sc., Ph.D., and postdoctoral work, at the University of Munich – LMU (Germany) and the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology (Germany), Ricardo addressed evolutionary and ecological questions in animal models based on genomic approaches.

Ricardo became convinced of the importance of clearly and creatively communicating new knowledge to society. After his postdoc, Ricardo joined the European Medical Writers Association to develop his career in science communications. Currently, Ricardo provides science communication services to universities and biotech companies that need to assertively communicate their developments and products to peers, opinion leaders, governments, and society at large. Ricardo is committed to aid the development of the biotech industry and its market in Colombia and Latin America.

Ricardo is also an entrepreneur. In 2017 Ricardo co-founded and currently leads R&D of a company that imports organic wines in Colombia. His challenge is to build a wine market avid of innovative and differentiated produce. Ricardo has contributed to his company’s growth by effectively planning and executing projects and deploying his ability to understand markets, as well as identifying and strategically engaging stakeholders.

Ricardo is a native Spanish speaker and is fluent in English and German. In addition, he can communicate in Italian and is currently learning Swedish.
